What is Type 1 Diabetes? My Story FAQ Health Tips
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease in which your body is not longer able to produce insulin and as a result, high levels of blood glucose are present in the blood. People with type 1 diabetes are diagnosed when their immune system misguidedly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. When these cells are destroyed, the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas is either little to none which puts the body into either hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) or hypoglycemia (low blood glucose).
Going through hyperglycemia is when your blood sugar is over 180 mg/dL on your blood glucose monitor.
Symptoms of Hyperglycemia: 1) Increased thirst 2)Blurry vision 3)Dry Mouth 4)Fatigue (feeling tired or weak)
Going through hypoglycemia is when your blood sugar is below 70 mg/dL on your blood glucose monitor.
Symptoms of Hypoglycemia: 1)Shakiness 2)Hungry 3)Anxiety/Sweating 4)Little to no energy
